Dana J. Stewart

Biography

Dana J. Stewart is a co-founding partner of Grinke Stewart Law PLLC and has practiced law since 2005, focusing his practice on family law matters throughout North Texas. Dana represents clients in a wide range of cases, including complex and high-net-worth divorce, contested child custody matters, child support, property division, CPS cases, enforcement and modification proceedings, paternity matters, protective orders, premarital and postmarital agreements, collaborative divorce, and termination and adoption proceedings.

Throughout his career, Dana has represented clients from all walks of life, including business owners, executives, professionals, and professional athletes in divorce and child custody matters. He understands that no two families, or family law cases, are the same, and he approaches each case with a strategy tailored to the client’s circumstances, priorities, and goals.

Dana is also frequently appointed by courts to serve as an amicus attorney in contested custody matters, assisting the court in determining the best interests of children. He also serves as an attorney ad litem and is certified to serve as a guardian ad litem. These appointments have given Dana extensive experience addressing complicated custody issues and evaluating family dynamics from perspectives beyond those of an advocate for one parent.

Dana believes effective family law representation requires both strong advocacy and sound judgment. Clients often come to him during some of the most difficult and uncertain periods of their lives, and he understands the emotional and financial consequences that family law litigation can have on an entire family. He works closely with clients to understand their priorities, explain their options candidly, and develop a strategy designed to achieve their goals while avoiding unnecessary conflict and expense.

When a negotiated resolution is in a client’s best interests, Dana works to find practical solutions that provide certainty and allow the family to move forward. When litigation is necessary, however, he is fully prepared to advocate for his clients in the courtroom. Dana is President of the Collin County Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (CCAP), a nonprofit organization that provides affordable mediation services to the Collin County community.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Collin County Bar Association and is a member of The College of the State Bar of Texas.

Dana is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, an honor extended each year to only one-third of one percent of Texas attorneys. He has also been recognized by Lawdragon as one of the 500 Leading Family Lawyers in America.

Dana is a member of the Collaborative Divorce Collin County peer group and currently serves on its bylaws committee. Earlier in his career, he served three terms as Vice President of the Collin County Young Lawyers Association, where he also ran the organization’s judicial internship program, connecting law students with Collin County District Court judges. In 2014, the Collin County Young Lawyers Association named Dana its Attorney of the Year. That same year, he appeared on an episode of MTV’s True Life to discuss parental rights.

Dana’s other professional and community involvement has included service on the Board of Directors of the Collin County Bench Bar Foundation, volunteering his legal services through Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, and serving as a mentor through the Frisco ISD Independent Study and Mentorship Program to help students interested in pursuing careers in law. He has also volunteered with The Family Place and Susan G. Komen.

Outside the office, Dana has a longstanding interest in fitness, martial arts, and personal safety. He is an expert-level Krav Maga instructor certified through both the Krav Maga Association of America and Krav Maga Worldwide and also trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Dana is a certified firearms instructor and Range Safety Officer through the USCCA and enjoys teaching responsible firearms handling, personal safety, and defensive skills.

Most importantly, Dana is a husband and father who values time with his family and friends. That perspective informs his understanding that a family law case is about much more than pleadings, hearings, and court orders—it is about helping people navigate significant changes in their lives and move forward with confidence.
